I just got back on campus after a fun filled weekend at home...haha that is a good one. Well, to be more accurate I had a great time the first two nights. I hung out with Dave Thomas and other elements of the home town crew. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Matt (JoJimmy [if I'm spelling that right]). He seemed a bit off when I talked to him on the phone. I think he and Dave aren't getting along so well again, but I haven't seen them in awhile so I'm not too sure. After Saturday the weekend went downhill because friendzen had to work and such. thus I was bored. It was very sad and I missed seeing skipland when he was passing through the gouchery area. ah, I'm tired. I shall sleep. Whee!...

Yesterday FMS trimmed the grass here. I really want one of those super fast riding lawnmowers. No wheelchairs for me (assuming I live that long). I am definitely going out and getting one of those when I'm one my last legs (or off them to be more exact). anyway...

I spent most of today searching the internet for parts. It was very sad. Especially when I couldn't even find what I was looking for on e-bay. also tried to test the circuit that I finished (ish, still waiting for some parts to come in) yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't really know what the output is supposed to look like...that made testing...difficult.

Pichler's dad came by the lab today. He is a rather interesting fellow. I may have finally figured out where Pichler is from: Croatia. I came to this conclusion after he told me that he and Sasha (head of the physics department) had graduated from the same school (Sasha is from Croatia). I also noticed that he coauthored several papers with his father and his father works at a physics institute in Croatia. I find it highly amusing that two thirds of the goucher physics department are from the same foreign country.

Interesting side note: Pichler's dad's name is Goran.

So here I am, sitting in the optics lab. I have just finished the circuit from yesterday and I should start testing it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do that and Dr. Pichler isn't here yet. It's 11am. He is supposed to get here at 9!!! Admittedly, he is doing the single parent thing this week. Still, I feel really useless. I hope he shows up soon so I can get back to work. It feels really awkward to be sitting in a research lab and have no idea what to do.

Blagh, I guess I'll go stare at the lasers for awhile...

First day

I finished my first work day a few hours ago. It was a little slow to start since Dr. Pichler was talking with a friend from grad school, Steve, who was in town to help set things up. After we discussed the finer points of laser construction, I had to read 3 research papers about how to get the lasers that Dr. Pichler already has to work properly. I didn't count the number of times that I almost fell asleep, but it was certainly more than 10. Lunch was a real life saver (escape from research papers), but not that tasty (P-stone has gone downhill since the semester ended). After lunch I had to rip apart Joel's mess (Joel is a physics major who graduates this year). He was supposed to get the lasers working before the end of the semester, but, in typical theoretical physicist fashion, he had only made one incredibly messed up circuit, which I spent the rest of the day rewiring.

After work, I went to superfresh. Now I have food. Sorry, but I guess I won't have to eat Katie-O's brains. On the other hand, that is probably a good thing. I got these crazy marble bagels that smell really good, but they came from superfresh so...

I am also really sketched out because I am fairly sure that there has to be at least one other person on my hall (probably two or more) but they don't make any noise and I don't see them...ever. I am really certain that joe is still around (another physics major) and he gives me weird vibes in general. there is also this random guy I saw at the end of the hall, I'm going to call him Mr. Sketchy for lack of a better name. I am not completely sure that Mr. Sketchy even lives in Winslow and I'm not sure which is more weird: Random guy standing in Winslow when he lives here and could be in his room or random guy standing in Winslow because he was thinking about stealing the desk that someone left in the hall...

So my hall is trashed and there isn't anyone here. I feel like I'm in the opening sequence of 28 days later. pretty bored, need to go to target and shower. realized last night that if you don't have microwave safe bowls you can't make easy mac...hungry. Katie-O's brains are looking good right now...but being a anal retentive, I would have to cook them first and I lack utensils to do so. mouse feces is everywhere. Also just realized that as the only one on the hall, all the mice will be in my room. Probably should get some mouse traps too then. Everything is really dusty, I need lysol. To many things to buy, to few arms to carry them with...
